On June 9, 2024, a meeting of the International Advisory Committee (IAC) of the Dushanbe Water Process was held in advance of the Third High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” 2018-2028.

The meeting was chaired by IAC Co-Chairman Sulton Rahimzoda, Chairman of the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management of the Republic of Tajikistan with participation of permanent members of the IAC and their representatives, invited guests and other interested parties.

Within the framework of the meeting the members of the International Advisory Committee discussed and presented their comments and proposals on finalization of the Final Document of the 3rd Conference on the Water Action Decade Conference, which was presented by the International Consultant on preparation and holding of the Conference Kelly Ann Naylor. An initial draft of the Outcome Document was circulated in May this year to UN Member States, international organizations and other stakeholders.

In early June, after receiving comments and proposals from states and organizations, including members of the International Steering Committee of the Dushanbe Water Process and the Steering Committee of the Group of Friends of Water under the UN and other interested experts, the draft document was finalized.

On October 19, 2023, the First meeting of the Tajik-Iranian Political Committee was held in Dushanbe. Delegations of the parties took part in this meeting under the leadership of the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sodiq Imomi and the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Bagheri.

 

 

 

 

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the state and prospects of the development of bilateral relations in the political, trade, economic, health, tourism, cultural and educational spheres. Issues of cooperation between the two countries within the framework of regional and international organizations were also discussed.

 

 

 

The parties expressed their readiness to intensify mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas in order to facilitate the further expansion of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran.

Welcoming the Senator, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that his visit provides a good opportunity to exchange views on comprehensive bilateral agenda and advance common priorities.

 

 

 

 

“The United States has always been our strategic partner in promoting global security, non-proliferation, economic resilience and democratic values. I think that we have done a lot. But we need to go further to advance mutual cooperation in so many areas of mutual interest” the President said.

 

 

 

 

During the conversation, the Head of State expressed gratitude to President Joe Biden for his personal invitation to participate in an inaugural C5+1 Leader’s Summit on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, which will be held in September.

 

 

 

 

In turn, Gary Peters thanked Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the opportunity to discuss key issues of strengthening the relationship between the United States and Kazakhstan.

 

 

 

“Central Asia is an important part of the world, as Kazakhstan is a key nation in the Central Asian region. Therefore, we want to make sure that we are finding ways to work cooperatively. I presume Biden shares that view and he is excited to see you in New York coming up in the near future. I think it will help us continue to work on strengthening our relationship,” the Senator noted.

The parties also discussed topical issues on the international and regional agenda.

On June 26, 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the European Parliament David McAllister.

 

 

 

 

During the meeting, issues of cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the European Parliament, the prospect of further development of inter-parliamentary relations, as well as the agenda of bilateral collaboration were discussed.

Within the visit to Canada, the employees of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora got acquainted with the activity of “Azeri Calgary Stars” dance group which operates under the Azerbaijan Cultural Society of Alberta.

 

 

 

 

The guests were given detailed information about the activity of the creative team. It has been reported that Azerbaijani children of different age groups learn our national dances with great enthusiasm and interest.

Azerbaijani children promote Azerbaijani culture and music in Canada by actively participating in various events and festivals.

It was emphasized that activity of the dance group is of great importance from the point of promotion and preservation of rich culture of Azerbaijan, solidarity of our compatriots and strengthening of friendly relations among them.

The committee staff watched the rehearsal of the creative team and exchanged ideas regarding the support to prompt the group’s activity.

Within the framework of his visit to Canada, Fuad Muradov, chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, met with Robert Oliphant, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Canada.

 

 

 

 

 

Parliamentary secretary was informed about diaspora policy of Azerbaijan, the activity of the Committee, 50 million Azerbaijanis living in more than 70 countries of the world. It was mentioned that following on the recommendations of the President of Azerbaijan, strong relations have been established with the Azerbaijani communities abroad, including our compatriots living in Canada.

It was emphasized that modern Azerbaijan, a leading state of the South Caucasus, has entered a new stage of its development and large-scale reconstruction works are being carried out in the liberated lands.

It was highlighted that Azerbaijani people want to establish lasting peace in the region.

Robert Oliphant highly appreciated the integration of the Azerbaijani diaspora into the Canadian society. Parliamentary secretary has told that Canada supports Azerbaijan’s internationally recognized territorial integrity. Robert Oliphant positively assessed the works done by Azerbaijani community in Canada for raising the image of their historical homeland.

The Committee chairman expressed hope for the further development of the bilateral relations.

The next meeting was held between Committee chairman and founder of “Pace Law Firm”. Al Pace, founder and head of the law firm, gave detailed information about the legal services provided by the company. It was emphasized that the company founded in 1981 has more than 160 lawyers working in five offices and provides services to clients in more than 38 languages.

 

 

 

Mentioning that he is originally from Lithuania, Al Pace spoke about the activities of the Lithuanian community and his company’s support to the start-up projects of the Lithuanian youth.

The Committee chairman gave detailed information about diaspora building and integration of the Azerbaijani community members onto the local society. It has been highlighted that members of the Azerbaijani community abroad are mainly engaged in trade and contribute to the economy of countries of residence. The meeting focused on the elimination of the integration-related problems and cooperation perspectives.

WKF Executive Committee paves way for continuous development of Karate

The Executive Committee of the World Karate Federation met Wednesday to take pressing decisions on the ongoing progress of the sport around the world.

The growing relevance of events and the WKF’s intention to continue celebrating engaging, spectacular, and first-class competitions were on top of the agenda of the meeting via videoconference.

The WKF decision-making body agreed to re-allocate the Karate 1-Premier League event that was initially slated to be held in Moscow. The last Karate 1-Premier League event of the season will now be held in Los Angeles (United States) from October 7 to 9, on the same dates as initially scheduled.

Additionally, the WKF Executive Committee reviewed the proposed calendar of events for 2023, with the World Senior Championships in Budapest (Hungary) to be held from October 24 to 29, 2023 as the highlight of the year.

Regarding the upcoming World Championships, the Spanish Karate Federation was awarded the organisation of the 2024 World Senior Team Championships. The first edition of the newly created World Championships for Teams will be held in Pamplona (Spain) after the successful organisation of the Karate 1-Series A event in the Spanish northern city in January this year.

Following the approval of the WKF Congress in Dubai last year, the first stage of development of the WKF Strategic Plan was agreed upon. The WKF Strategic Plan outlines the new configuration of the WKF World Championships for the period 2022-2025 and highlights the growing sporting spirit of the event by splitting the tournament into individual and team competitions.

Moreover, the agenda of the WKF Congress to be held in Konya (Turkey) on the eve of the 2022 World Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships was finalised, with the approved list of candidates for the elections of the Executive Committee and President of the organisation.

WKF President Antonio Espinós said:

“Karate is in continuous progress and the development of our sport has experienced tremendous growth over the last years, mostly due to the increasing impact of our events. With the new WKF Strategic Plan, we ensure that our World Championships grow even more in terms of competitive edge and spectacularity.

“I am convinced that with the decisions taken today by the Executive Committee, our events will have a greater influence on fans, athletes and sponsors.”
