Stanislav Horuna is The World Games Athlete of March 2022

Stanislav Horuna of Ukraine has been designated The World Games Athlete of the month.

The current European Champion and defending gold medallist of The World Games was selected by the IWGA as the athlete of the month of March. The Ukrainian Karate Star qualified for the 2022 edition of The World Games to be held later this year in Birmingham (USA) as the current EKF titleholder in Male Kumite -75kg.

Horuna who joined the army after the Russian invasion of Ukraine and is engaged in the defence of his country against the Russian attack from his hometown of Lviv won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

 

This year, before the eruption of the war in his country, he had claimed bronze at the Karate 1-Premier League Fujairah. He had taken the European crown and the silver medal at the Karate 1-Premier League Lisbon in the 2021 season.

One of the most beloved Karate athletes on the international scene, Horuna is a five-time European Championships medallist and 2014 World Championships bronze medallist. At The World Games 2017 in Wroclaw, he claimed the title after a celebrated final against Iran’s Aliasghar Asiabari.

The Ukrainian Karate Star was the first runner-up in the race to become The World Games Athlete of the Year in 2020.
